However, advantages of social media impact is more than we imagine.
One of the positive effects is that social media helps improve communication. Social media has made our lives easier to stay connected with our friends and family, in spite of distance and terrain. Via this electronic communications, geographical distance is no longer an obstacle or barrier for us to share life and happiness with the loved ones. Social media has strengthened our relationship by enabling more frequent sharing of life updates, and sent out messages would be immediately. Due to the convenience of the social media, we are able to text our friends and post our daily life. Social media platform ameliorates interpersonal communication by sharing lives with our friends or family.
Secondly, social media can also boost business contacts. Because of the pandemic, we are not allow to go to school or work, instead of staying home for studying or working from home. Therefore, that makes conferences a difficult tasks, which need to meet people in person to gather opinions and make a decision. Take my father as an example, he got the COVID-19, so the company let him remote-working. My father just needs to open a laptop and make a call for the people in company starting sharing each other’ opinions. In addition, social media improves our lives into a more convenient way so that we would not apart from distance anymore. It really does a lot of transformation of daily life.
Last but not least, cultural exchange benefits from social network sites as well.
Social media alleviate cross-cultural communication, quoting a sentence from a scholar,“There are differences in the way that people who identify with different cultures, based on both national identity and gender, manage their communicative behaviors within SNSs [social network sites]”(Rosen et. al, 2010). It means that cultural differences and exchanges can surge people who are in the different culture. Through these changes, people can have further opportunities to understand other beautiful things in the world.The profits of cultural exchange have brought a lot of convenience to numerous people which are rare to see.
To sum up, above-mentioned advantages are the profits that social networks sites bring to us, helping improve communication, boosting business contact, and increasing cultural change. As the advancement of technology, social media platforms have affected us in an assortment of ways. Maybe some people’s first thought when thinking about social media is its shortcomings, but if you think about it carefully, the benefits it brings may not necessarily outweigh the disadvantages.
